Mandy began hosting for our Trowbridge centre in early 2024, and hosts with her two young adult children.
Sadly, I became a widow last year and needed to find other income sources in addition to running my own small business. I came across Wiltshire Host Families on Facebook and was really impressed with the flexibility it provides, the ability to meet new people and earning additional income for ourselves.
Hosting fits in really well with our lifestyle as a family. The students are out all day and are back no earlier than 6:30 in the evening, meaning that it doesn’t interrupt our normal schedule at all. Having students stay with us in the evening is really nice company, and it’s lovely to learn about their cultures and home lives. Also, getting paid weekly is a huge bonus – it has allowed us to pay for holidays and home improvements that our normal wages just wouldn’t stretch to.
Our biggest reservation about hosting was having strangers staying in our house. But there have been no problems whatsoever. It’s also comforting to know that Wiltshire Host Families have our back and will provide support and advice whenever we need it.
