Jean and Richard began hosting for our Trowbridge centre in early 2024 and mostly host girls and occasionally teachers/group leaders.

What Prompted You To Start Hosting?

We heard about hosting from another resident in our village, as well as seeing WHF’s adverts in and around Trowbridge. You see, we’re both retired with adult children, so we thought joining Wiltshire Host Families would be an excellent way to enjoy company in the evenings.

What's Your Favourite Thing About Hosting?

We love learning about our students, their culture, education and leisure activities; helping them with their homework and practising their English skills. It’s lovely to socialise with them in the evenings.

What Were You Most Nervous About Before Hosting?

We were concerned that there would be a big language barrier. We both speak some French, but are by no means fluent. So far, the students have spoken amazing English, and if there ever has been a slight barrier, Google Translate has done a great job of overcoming it.
